What me...WORRY?
Runa's Oracle ♡
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
Phillipians 4:6
Worry is so pervasive in our society that we have given it a badge of honor. Whoever can worry the most wins. I think we've even been taught that worry and prayer are synonyms.
I have been the worrier, and I have been around worriers. You know the sort. Perhaps you are the sort.
Interestingly, it took a lot for me to recognize in myself what I was seeing in others. I could argue the point that "well, they worry so much more than I do," in self righteousness. But that isn't the point. Wet is wet, regardless of the size of the pool.
What I have come to realize (and am still realizing - it's a journey and a practice) is that worry is an energy. And it's not a positive energy.
Think about the last time you were worried about something. What images were in your head? I will bet (and I am 100% sure I'd win) that those images were negative. Images of harm, images of fear, images of pain, images of loss.
A few days ago, I let worry get the better of me. My sister is in the hospital and not only was I receiving some worry energies from others, I was creating and sending my own back out into the world. I have to trust in a higher power, and if I am worried, I am not doing that AT ALL.
I have to remind myself that it IS a journey and a practice, (yep, I said it again) and so I do not shame myself but move back into awareness and light. I really like the quote below!
“Chronic remorse, as all the moralists are agreed, is a most undesirable sentiment. If you have behaved badly, repent, make what amends you can and address yourself to the task of behaving better next time. On no account brood over your wrongdoing. Rolling in the muck is not the best way of getting clean.”
~Aldous Huxley
The Energy of Worry
Above, I mentioned something about putting worry out into the world. Before I became a Master Reiki practitioner and teacher, I might have thought that worry only affected the worrier. But, what I discovered was that energy in any form affects literally anyone and everyone, both indirectly and directly.
Think of a time you walked into a room and got a vibe. It's because one or more persons was putting off an energy, intentionally or unintentionally. The energy around us affects each of us differently based on our own frequency and energy boundaries, which can be improved with awareness, meditation, prayer, and intention.
Directed energy can be more powerful, whether good or bad energy. Regarding worry, when we have a specific person in mind that we are "worrying" about becomes the object and the energy follows.
There's an adage: Where attention goes, energy flows.
Realizing this, I had an epiphany moment. Worry wasn't doing me, or my sister any good at all. It certainly wasn't the trust in a Higher Wisdom that I want to have. So I am learning to recognize worry and substitute it with healing energy. An energy of wholeness.
Let's look at the etymology of Worry, and you'll see even there how the energy moves. (I find that etymology often gives a deeper understanding of a word than a simple dictionary definitions.)
The Etymology of Worry
I love words, and their roots, so I just had to look up worry. And WHOOOOOAAAA! I found that I do not want the energy of worry at all, for myself, or for other people and situations.
The etymological root means to turn or bend but it was used in a way that meant to turn in order to (1.) "slay, strangle, kill or injure." WHAT????
By the 17th century, the meaning had shifted to mean (2.)"to annoy, bother, vex" and "to feel mental distress or trouble."
Let's break that down a bit. Starting with (1.) The word worry indicates that their is an object to that worry and there is an indication of serious harm. Meaning that something or someone is the recipient of that action or energy. The energy originates in the worrier and is acted upon ... (it begs the question, acted upon what?) On "worried about?" On the worrier themself? On both?
And now, (2.) Here we do see potentially 2 types of action. Toward the one doing the worrying - this one's obvious, as a feeling of mental distress or trouble would be the worrier's feeling. But also, to annoy, bother or vex which might speak of this harm to the other. Although not quite as devastating, physically at least, I think that mentally and spiritually it still can be quite serious. Even if you don't believe that your energy goes out to that person or situation, (As a Reiki student, Master and Teacher certified, I believe it does. There are scientific studies to back this up.) you might simply consider the damage that worry is doing to you.
The Energy of Images/Imagination
What images (images are energy) would you like to see for the person or situation you are concerned about? I bet you'd say healing and wholeness. That is true prayer. Not a wringing of the hands, nor a wringing of thoughts in the mind.
Imagination is consciousness in action. Do you use it well and wisely? Do you use it unwisely and inappropriately? The circumstances of your life might have answers for you if you can't immediately answer the question.
Are you using your imagination for worry? Or for healing energy (an energy of wholeness) and holding space for another's path?
I got hit upside the head with this psychic love slap myself this week. That's why I am sharing with you.
The Worrier is not the Warrior we make them out to be.
In love,
♡ Runa
